That bit about "ScotsNats"...the problem with the Eye is that they regurgitated the same old "Better Together" propaganda which was thoroughly debunked during the run up to the 2014 referendum (sure the question about which currency an indy Scotland would use was completely muffed by the SNP, that annoyed many of us who were pro-indy). As typical of a metro-London publication they did some pretty lazy journalism. If they wanted to be "more edgy" then they should have questioned the value of "The Union" rather than jumping aboard the tired old gravy train full of myths and rubbish circling the London Inner Ring Road. Just saying.

It’s not. The Conservative Party has moved to the right of the political spectrum and the Eye has not moved so it looks like it is more progressive. Hislop’s remarks on Jacob Rees Mogg, Johnson and others makes it clear what he thinks of them as a person.

I haven't read Private Eye before, so whether I renew the subscription is up to them, but it's important to be informed about our politicians in this "post-rational" world.

Hislop, he's funny..but still a left-wing twat. Ignores a lot of facts in favour of being satirical and socialist...for example, claiming the the Public/private Finance deals are "capitalism at it's worst"....No Ian dear, if it involves the state, then it is not capitalism you fool, it is state regulated economics...Capitalism is a genuine Free Market..something we have yet to try in this country, despite it being the only moral and successful form of economics. He was right about the 1939 thing, and the overuse of the term "fascist" however.....somehow that makes me laugh at his abuse of the term Capitalist, in the same vein as he mocks those who abuse the term fascist. Can't see that he is as guilty as those he laughs at.

Though I don't like this man's politics I believe he and his magazine are essential to holding the fire beneath the feet of those with money and power. They need to be continually reminded someone is watching and they won't getaway with unacceptable behaviour. The fact Hislop is very partisan in some areas is annoying, but he and others do serve a very important role in a free democratic society. Private Eye is the court jester, the one who gets away with pointing out mistakes and corruption inside the system because they themselves are considered irrelevant and funny. The truth gets out, but hidden behind a satirical mask.

The other is this paper is not held accountable for its mistakes in public why? Then there are the writers why are they not in media all the time so people know them all as in who they are what they did before writing for this paper thing. As Wikileaks has never ever been found to be wrong and nominated 7 times because of facts nothing retracted. Aye, another `kin` that-type-of-Scot, along with Blair, Brown, Salmond, Sturgeon et al. There is now a list as long as one`s arm. God bless all the decent Scots.

speaking truth to power? when u only won 1 out of 40 for Libel cases? Hislop has been an intellectually dishonest shill for the establishment for nigh on 20 years now! HIGNFY is cringe and unwatchable for about 15 years. Merton was the only good thing about that show!

Ian shows his ignorance on at least 3 fronts. Confessions is heard in the Catholic wing of the Church of England. Britain is filling up with economic refugees from the EU(In Brighton, Eastern Europeans work in supermarkets, drive buses and taxis and even work in the refuse business. Farmers have been paid not to farm and the farming industry is a shadow of its former self; as is the fishing industry. Our membership of the EU has cost us our entire industrial base etc. etc. People working for the media have all been told to rubbish Brexit or they will lose their jobs.
