I love Linus but hate the bullshit he says for the sake of the narrative of his videos. What else could Apple call their high-end products apart from 'Pro'? For years they've been using 'Air' for their "low-end" products and 'Pro' for the upgraded versions of them. iPad Air vs. iPad Pro, for example. If you're gonna criticize Apple for their naming scheme give them a recommendation, and also mention the fact that Apple has been pretty much the only laptop manufacturer to use 16:10 1440p QHD panels on their laptops.

Am I the only person who's thinking of it more like allowing 4k for Windows & productivity with 120hz 1080p for gaming (you don't need any complicated scaling for these resolutions)? So essentially for me it means I don't need to choose between having a good display for gaming, and a good display for productivity.

Honestly most of the reasons you listed as potential negatives are the reasons I'm seriously considering this machine (or at least the 2020 version with an 8-core CPU - when it's back in stock). The centered keyboard (which means no numpad) is an absolute must-have. An off-centered keyboard is an ergonomic nightmare. To my knowledge, this is the only high-performance 17" laptop available with a centered keyboard. (Just for the record, even my desktop workstation's mechanical keyboard has no numpad - I haven't missed it a bit.) So this laptop is on my shortlist of potential 17" machines - a list of one. If I bought one of these, it would be for remote-remote work. The 17" screen and 4k resolution would be nowhere near as good as my 3x 30" desktop setup, but with some windowing utilities and taking advantage of Windows' multiple desktops feature, I think it could be functional enough for C++/UE4 development. The one big drawback is the cost. In addition to the $3,700 base price, I'd need to install another 2-4TB NVME SSD to host work files, and upgrade it to 64GB of RAM. All in, I expect my total investment - without tax - would be around $4,500. What I would gain is having an adequate machine to do work on the road. Those 3x 30" monitors, connected to my 3990X, 256GB RAM, Titan fixed workstation make for a great/perhaps even optimal workflow/environment, but it's not mobile.

    Amen, 17" needs 1440p, not 4K or 1080p. My Alienware 17R5 has a 2560x1440 at 144Hz. Perfect.

So agree with the 1440p being the sweet-spot. Only LG gram 17 provides that resolution but thanks to it's 15w CPU, especially the 10th gen with 1.3 Ghz base clock, it delivers ABYSMAL performance. :-(

The gaming laptop manufactures just need their own buzzword resolution, like 1440 GAMING REZ, or SUPER-RESOLUTION 1440, then they'll sell to average consumers and gamers who actually look up what it means and say, "wow 1440p, about time someone did it."

So I bought a razer blade 15 for my deployment about 1.5 year ago and its been the best money I've spent for sure. I have been rippin games like escape from tarkov, overwatch, fortnite, warzone, csgo, league. Mine has a gtx 1060 and I got a good deal and got a 1TB harddrive and a 500gb SSD. It has been running very well for me. No problems with heating and the keyboard is pretty good for gaming even though im used to a mechanical keyboard. Battery life is nice for when I want to unplug and lay on my bed and watch movies. However, I would not play games on battery life. Also the keyboard lights up so its good in dark. Really I can't recommend enough. Here is the one that I got: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575301511&toolid=10001&campid=5338087114&customid=&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FOB-Razer-Blade-15-Gaming-Laptop-i7-8750H-16GB-Ram-128GB-SSD-1TB-GTX-1060-6GB%2F303468678435%3Fepid%3D6027544072%26hash%3Ditem46a8248d23%253Ag%253AbGEAAOSwW89d-vAK%26LH_BIN%3D1
