The next generation of satellite internet is here... but is it any good... and how does it work, exactly? But most importantly, can you pwn noobs from space with it?

Gaming on STARLINK!!
25 829 Áhorf 2,6 m.
Where I live you don't get fibre, LTE/ 4G/5G nor ADSL. There are a couple of companies that offer a form of wireless internet puts an antenna dish up that points to one of their towers which has to be in line of sight. When tested they managed to get 50mb upload and download with 18ms latency
I had 700kbps DSL before getting starlink. Just tested speeds and got 115Mbps down, 16 Mbps up.
Ridge wallet made in Communist China just FYI support freedom not... well hitler
64 ping.. i am lucky to get anything under 200
Awesome no more Verizon hotspot throttling
138mbps? That's way better than I expected. This is really impressive.
Wow. First heard about Starlink 2-3 years ago, and now here we are
can you screenshot of tracert? to know the nods? and chech russian speedup, under cmd write ping -ls 500 ip of gate note -t. ? worlwide that stuppid command speedup connection and nobody can say why :(
Lmfao 99 dollars a month and a 500 dollar hardware charge 😂😂😂😂. Fucking dog shit
What you guys talking about I work on 3 ping 😂😂😂
His actual ping is around 44ms. 64 is the tick rate. hahahah
Just wait for Starlink phones
Guy couldn't get permits to place his own internet cables so he built a fucking satellite array.
Is this available worldwide including in the Pacific where data coverage sucks
I'm so Excited
I get 1mbs up and down. My ping is unstable with lows of 60ms (although it never stays there) and spikes up to 1100ms+ that lasts for minutes on end. Anyone who has experienced bad internet knows that a small spike in ping (such as 60 to 100) for even a few seconds can be devastating. It can lose you games, tilt you, ruin a play or prevent you from making one etc. Nobody likes HSing someone in R6 only to have it not register, or miss a cannon minion in LoL. I have allways wanted to do youtube and stream, but it is impossible to do on my current internet. Toxic teammate Tommy's online (and anyone who is remotely in my boat will understand this) will taunt you saying things like "just play for better internet what are you poor?" It's not that simple. I can't simply pay for better internet, I pay 90 bucks a month for this garbage but it's all I can get. I am moving for collage soon so it dose not matter anymore as much anymore. My childhood dreams or ISpulse and Streaming will have to wait untell I finish school (but I dont think it will ever happen l, as I no longer have the time nor the motivation I once had when I was younger) this would have changed my life dramatically, and would greatly improve it now as it takes me for ever to access google docs/sheets to get my school done. Good to see papa Elon making one of the most necessary resources, in today's society, affordable and accessible to future generations. This would have altered the course of my life for sure.
Mines expensive and shitty lol 😅😅
linus: I'm gonna do a head shot 應當指揮·能打勝仗(listen to the CPC, win every war) killed LinusTechTips Some guy on bilibili: why is this fake Linus so trash
Speed test at 9:56, you're welcome.
With that old style synchronous orbiti satellite based systems, the chances of being abnle to win a bidding bid on Ebay because of that 2.5 or more latency round trip delay! Alos, during the rainy season here in Florida the risk of losing an hour more of afternoon connectivity can be most aggravating!
I have dsl in Canada getting 4mbps on good days. When it rains my internet basically becomes non existent. Can’t wait for starlink to become available in my area
how much did that like 6 second south park clip cost to run?lol
He said "nice beard" looks like a 16 year old when he's trying to grow a beard
Yesss!!!! No more 999 Ping
I live in Sicily (Italy) and even though I get 950+ in download e 200 in upload, I can't get any lower than 40 ms...
Thank you Elon!
Just pre ordered mine. Waiting to get accepted and pay that $500 for the dish
my ping is between 50-70 an its oke
Y'all talking about speeds upto 100mbps while I have to suffer with my 2mbps lol
Watching this vid on internet speed reduced to 2g🤬
But what about NAT??
“It’s a little slower that a 100mb broadband” me just wishing to get 10mb
Wow, can't wait to game on Neuralink
I have a home in the Dominican Republic. Definitely buying Starlink. Internet sucks ass out there.
Fresh books from Stars 🤣
Remote Crypto Mining bro.... c'mon!
Honestly, Vivaldi is more suitable for web splitting than Chrome. vivaldi can split four web pages in one window, which is very easy to operate.
I live in an area where ATT says I can't do better then 5 down and 1 up. And it sucks...
I just signed up for it, using dsl that I barely get 1mpbs downloads on a good day, I'm pretty excited
Im curious. Could starlink save the internet from all the insane censorious companies that seem to have a master plan to ruin the internet? Elon doesnt seem to give a crap about these terrible companies, maybe he saw this coming and created starlink to make sure the internet doesnt get totaly destroyed.
Take that sparklight
14:09
I thought you meant gaming on a Subaru
and i pay 19euros a month for a 1 gb speed internet with unlimited calls to any1 in the country...
Can you make a video testing gaming on Europe servers? It would be really insightful. Thanks!
Do a speed test
I'm already happy having that kind of internet speed. My internet speed is much slower than that, having only 5mbps :
Are there any NAT issues with this? I have various NAT problems with my 4G home internet so wondering if this suffers the same.
I get 70mbps with 90ms ping but it "feels" faster than what is shown in this video, despite being "slower" by both metrics. What explains that?
"27 ping is not great" In South Africa we game on 180-200 ping on a good day!
I'm in India and use Jiofiber. I get constant 17 ping (csgo, dota 2) and 29 ping (COD) My download speed is around 17mbps to 44 mbps. My up speed is around 19mbps to 22 mbps. I'd like Linus to review this please.
Texas blackout? Conservative censorship crackdown?
I’ve had shit satellite internet for the last like 5 years (we are talking 1mbps/400+ping on a GOOD day) it’s basically unusable for all but the lowest of uses (144p ISpulse kinda works) so this is huge. Also we pay like $130 with a 50gb cap so this is also a huge deal
What do with that satellites stand in the winter?
4 4k videos = 8k
I get a smoothe 120 mbps in south east Iowa, but my brother chooses a cheaper isp and this is going to be a game changer. Awesome.
You didn't do what I wanted to see the most. Cross continent ping comparison. Like STARLINK vs ISP US - China ping comparison.
Wish you would have tested the latency to a server in say China to see how it compares to the terrible 300+ MS you probably get now where you're located. Well, I mean get some Chinese dude to get Starlink as well and have him host a server.
They won’t bring fibre to my subdivision and I get damn 3mb download I just been accepted for Starlink beta so excited to get my unit never ordered something so fast in my life this will truly be game changing for me
"I think we all know where I'm going to go..." me: "Ookla speed test!" him: some random lame underwear site. I was so wrong!
Spectrum struggles to get me more than 45ms latency for entirely too much money.
his ping was about 40~50 when he was playing csgo, not 64; 64 was another stat that was on top of the ping
The shaggy muscle socioeconomically curl because whale universally cheer lest a cut deposit. tense, sweet turnip
Surprised to see it has over 100Mbps download speed which is more than usable (though I preferred 200Mbps+). However, there is not much users right now and I doubt the performances are going to degrade when more people join this network. Also, I am not sure but I guess the average density of satellites is not uniform across the planet and the internet providers on the ground aren't uniformly located either, so actually using this in a remote area can be very different.
I have HughesNet and get 1mbps and 1000 Ping Starlink will be a massive upgrade for me
7:16 same beanie, same sweater, same arm gestures🤔 scripted
so we made the earth a crap hole and weve managed to make space a crap hole just so humans dont get bored , how useless are we.
When space internet is faster than your internet
If the internet is in space couldn’t you take one of the beta kits and a laptop to the moon and play csgo on the moon
Sadly, no. The satellites are in space, but the internet is on earth.
We can get competition only if the "last mile" (the connection between nearest POP and your house) will be handled by a different company than the ISP. This can be started by passing a law that mandates current ISPs (primarily cable companies) to lease their infrastructure to competitors at reasonable cost. That's what Title II normally mandates, but at the time FCC Chairman, Tom Wheeler (who was previously lobbying for cable companies) put an exclusion to it when he reclassified Internet to Title II. Most people might not remember it, but two decades ago, when DSL was the king of broadband, we had huge number of ISPs to chose from (sites like dslreports.com were useful to rate and chose the best ISPs in your area) this was all thanks to that telco companies were under Title II without such exclusion and other ISPs could use phone lines to provide their service. Starlink adds competition to the area, but it's still only a single company, it's unlikely others could deploy their satellites as well. So that's hardly a true competition. Separating ISPs from the last mile is the real way to solve this. Please contact your representatives.
How long from order to delivery? I just ordered and it said mid to late 2021.
ì dont buy that crap
orrrrrrr you get 100mbs and the ping is 150ms with 500 ping spikes
One snowday and it's all over
I was selected for the starlink UK, but at £499 for equiptment and £89 p/m it's simply not worth it. Especially we would be early Beta testers and were told to expect outages.
Did Linus forget hes in Canada? The dish is $650 and its $130 per month.
Elon Musk is a really bad person and complicit in a significant amount of human exploitation and suffering. Also this is incredibly cool.
does all this shit and all we want to see is a pure speedtest.... but linus you goof...
Dude , your too spoiled i play fee fire with 400 ping on a 6mbps connection and pown .. i would kill for 60 ms and 150 mbps is a steal for 100$ now pay 42$ for 6mbps
My hard wired internet does not have ping that good. Or speeds that good.
Fuck Starlink. Elon Musk is signing the death warrant of astronomy.
Does anyone else want to teach Linus CS:GO?
beard look like shit
The best place to test this would have been on a boat!
More junk in space
Movistar kbps gang here! 💩
na h*j Ci ta czapka koles ?
Trash at csgo lol
Ordered one today, hoping it will change my life in the country :D
These Satellite could kill lives at the end of its lifespan when it falls from space in a couple of decades when it hits a passing airplane. For being crowded.
That’s not how this works..
Phase arrays are no longer just a military thing. They were the original users because they were rich. But nowadays cellphones and WiFi routers also have them. Tesla uses it for autopilor radar. It's nothing really so complicated.
what I'd like to know is what the latency is like for cross continent? like being in the US and playing on a European server or the other way around.
Elon is gonna be remembered very fondly in the history books. He is outpacing all of trhese other billionaires who are constantly complaining about climate change like Gates and Bezos, but he is promoting real change rather than pushing anti-humanism like Gates and Bezos do. Funny how the so called progressive liberals hate him so much.
Linus, any chance you could put the starlink dish up on a kill-o-watt meter to see how much amps/watts it uses in general use. I'm guessing it uses substantially more when moving the dish and 'heating it' to remove snow than it does during general sit and send/receive... or I'm hoping it does. Off grid solar here and 90w continuous would be 2kw a day just to run the internet.
Hello Linus, starlink just because available in my area but the cost is 129$ per month along with a 650$ hardware fee. I live in Alberta and my best speed here is 10mbps down. How may I ask are you guys getting the service for 100$ a month? After the conversion my monthly bill would be around 170$
Here in the States the corruption has completely eliminated any sort of freemarket. Because of massive deregulation Corporations are allowed to essentially bribe local governments to being the only available provider in a given area. Elon musk does not do marketing. So your criticism of hyperbolic marketing falls flat. He makes no promises but lets the public know what his goals are and tries his damnedest to achieve those goals. If you think that’s hyperbolic marketing that I think you have a very nihilistic view of the world.
better then the internet i have right now
For achieving this reusable rocket was needed or starlink project would be bankrupt before it's commercial launch
The roasted driver suggestively work because polyester nationally follow unto a fresh era. tasteless, wicked army
ADSL gives me around 40 ms response time on Speedtest. 30 up/ 3 down. I think I can handle a small bit of comment latency for the sake of increasing speeds AND response times in some cases.
