I think at the end of the day, this police officer’s view of the police system is going to be different than what most Black and Colored activists learn statistically about racist cops and institutional racism since he’s only known policemen/women in his area. Every police county is different, with different systems, as he briefly stated within the video. Even if he says that police are held to the highest standard, who’s the say another police county in Florida is held to the same account? Each police has their own opinions, and his shouldn’t be used to get into perspective of all policemen, but some.

Funny that some people are doing the exact same thing that they want to accuse people of so bad. they contribute to the problems themselves. the fact that shes amazed that a cop is black as if its a white peoples job? they are stereotyping themselves and making distinction between races. thats literally the definition of racism. if you want to better the world better yourself first. and thats starting with getting out of that victim role. this video just perfectly proves it and theres literally no denying it.

This police officer was put on a spot, this discussion should have had several officers and civilian involved and of different areas like NYPD who are consisted of violent officers. The officer in this session reminds me of LIVELPD WELL rehearsed statements careful not to slip and say something he might regret- the police have trained him well.

The last guy's anecdote about getting beat up is pretty telling. He first starts out with the headline, "I was beat up by officers with handcuffs on." On it's face, this sounds like the cop beat him up for no reason. Then we come to learn he provoked the police officer and they went too far and actually hurt him. Is the officer wrong and should probably be fired? Yes, absolutely. But this young man should listen to his instincts first. Even he knew that he was partially responsible, but his subconscious wants him to steer 100% of the blame on someone else. I'm not a fan of police brutality and I'm sorry he didn't get justice, but there has to be an aspect of personal responsibility that enters here. If someone was to scream nonsense and inflammatory remarks in the town square and someone takes offense and knocks him out. Is it wrong and illegal? Yes, they were assaulted. Are they partially responsible? Yes, as well.

I appreciate this officer’s caution in responding to the controversial questions, but I honestly wish there was more in depth discussion. At the beginning of his responses, they were very ideal/utopian responses, but as he derived further into them, I feel like he was exposing a systemic issue that he didn’t want to label as one. 1. The experience that inspired him to go into the force 2. The anecdote about his partner 3. The acknowledgement that unnecessary force was used in the anecdotes shared with him Overall, I feel like the officer is just tired of being defined by his Blackness and his solution is to make it a non-factor, which I understand.

Tavish Lopez Yeah I agree! Not only that but I’m pretty sure he’s held liable to certain standards if he was to address the systemic issues due to the fact that he is an active police officer that would most definitely be a conflict of interest as well so he distanced himself from it

Was the civil rights movement group think? It was responding to oppression and violence against black people. Same thing for the Black Lives Matter movement. It is a response to oppression and violence against black people. I think the officer's fear is that the movement will lead people to automatically dislike or fear police officers, when each officer should be judged based on their own conduct. Where police forces in general get in trouble morally and lose their way is the thin blue line. The story the one man told of being punched in the face while sitting on the curb while handcuffed involved more than him and the police officer. It is VERY likely that there were 4-8 other officers present and some of them saw it too and didn't report it. I know if you "rat" out another officer your career is over, but even in instances of murder by police officer, you have the other officers who are present maintaining their silence.

Black Lives Matter is a specific organization. The Civil Rights Movement didn't have that name when it was going about. MLK and other leaders across the nation didn't call themselves the Civil Rights Movement. Black Lives Matter is an organization, that is a group with organizational leaders, that has group think, that is a brand (t-shirts, bumper stickers). BLM may have been and most likely was like the civil Rights movement at the beginning, but right after, it became basically a non-profit with a mission statement that if you didn't agree or follow guidelines, they cut ties and associations. Malcolm X and MLK are considered pieces of the Civil Rights movement, and had vastly different ideologies. If BLM had an MLK, they would disowned Malcolm X for not calling in line, in thought and actions.

We are a country quite free of racism, although you still can find it like everywhere ofc, and free of other kind of hate movements, but i dont agree with the guy with the LetUsLive tshirt. It sucks that a lot of u are saying if this was a white officer then they would pull the racist cards u don’t know that 100% sure leave them alone they probably dealt with ppl that are racist to them and or knew a lot of ppl that was exposed to it so they are probably just unsteady abt the whole thing you can’t just see one side of the story you have to see both sides

The cop is too focused on Black Lives Matter as a 'group' instead of focusing on what that group 'stands for'. Having said that, I have a feeling I know why he said that, but even so you sometimes have to recognize why a group had to form in the first place...usually, because there have been many wrongs done towards that group, so it's important to remember the reason why it exists.

I understand the Cop was absolutly wrong! Still, as much as he is wrong, you were fighting then the police came and you still dont own your wrong doing and keep attaking the officer. So you are not that innocent. And I am absolutly sure if anybody called you the N-word you would hit that Person and then would see them as their fault!

Something I will never understand in USA is the thing of calling the police in schools, when a teacher just call 911 during the class because of the behavior of a kid. I mean it's just so wrong in my European perspective (not talking about the armed students, I'll understand), there are others ways to stop a kid and his "rebellion" but handcuffing a kid on the ground just no. The trauma and anger that could cause for everyone in the classroom...
